Aviation Authority Opens Licensing and Aircraft Registration from 14 September

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Velocity Interoperability Network today announced that it will accept applications for licences, certificates and aircraft registration from Monday 14 September 2026. The Authority issues nine forms of licence, certificate and approval: the private, commercial and air transport pilot licences, the aircraft maintenance engineer licence, the air traffic controller licence, the remote pilot certificate, the flight operations officer licence, the air operator certificate and the approval of maintenance organisations. Licences and certificates issued by member organisations of the Network before 6 September 2026 remain valid until 31 March 2027, or until their stated expiry date if earlier. Holders who wish to continue exercising their privileges after that date must register their existing licence with the Authority by 30 November 2026, after which it will be converted to an Authority licence without examination. The records of 1,120 licence holders were transferred to the Authority during the transition period, and holders whose records were transferred will be invited to register by email.

The Network aircraft register opens on the same date. Aircraft are allocated registration marks in the series VIN-AAA to VIN-ZZZ, with separate series for helicopters, unmanned aircraft and balloons. The 214 aircraft recorded on the registers of member organisations at establishment have been entered on the Network register under their existing marks, which remain valid until 31 March 2027.
